Discussion & Valuation
I have examined photographs of this instrument submitted to me by its owner, Mz. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, and have discussed its condition in detail with Mz. zzzzzzz. I have satisfied myself that the instrument is in excellent overall physical condition, but needs routine replacement of wearing elements such as pads, corks & springs to be in prime playing condition. This is an unusual instrument because of its gold plating and extensive engraving work. This saxophone is typical of the top line instruments of, and was most likely built, in the mid-1920's. It is of sufficient age, rarity and condition to have attained a degree of collectibility in addition to its value as a playing instrument. Similar instruments, when available, are typically offered by dealers at $2,200 to $3,000. Allowing for the needed maintenance, this saxophone, in its present condition, in my opinion, has a replacement value of not less than $2,000.
